Sangiacomo Vineyards Pop Up Tasting: October 17

A great tasting opportunity has just fallen in our lap! Dodds Dezell from Sangiacomo will be in the wine shop this Thursday night, October 17th, from 5-7pm. Sangiacomo has been farming in the Sonoma Valley since 1927. Their initial focus was pears but in 1969 they began planting grapes. Sangiacomo owns five different vineyards located in Carneros, Petaluma Gap, and the Sonoma Coast. With 1600 acres of estate fruit, 60 premium wineries purchase most of their fruit. It wasn’t until 2016 when they began Sangiacomo Family Wines.

Dodds Dezell, their National Sales Manager, will be joining us Thursday to discuss the wines, the family’s rich history and their successes. Join us as we welcome Dodds! As we understand it, he is quite charismatic and was and extra in the famed movie, ‘Bottle Shock.’

We will be pouring these wines:

Eden Dale (Sangiacomo) Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2020 – $37.99
Crafted by winemaker James MacPhail, the Eden Dale Chardonnay showcases cool-climate vineyards of the Sonoma Coast. The 2020 vintage was marked by steady weather, allowing for full phenolic maturity, balancing vibrant freshness with rich texture. This Chardonnay has received Silver Medals at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the TexSom Awards. With hand-sorted grapes and a combination of barrel and tank fermentation, the wine reflects purity, balance, and structure, making it an outstanding cool-climate Chardonnay at an approachable price.

Eden Dale (Sangiacomo) Pinot Noir 2021 – $44.99
This Pinot Noir is a reflection of Sangiacomo’s top cool-climate vineyards, including those in Carneros and the Petaluma Gap. Despite a lower-yielding vintage in 2021 due to limited rainfall, the moderate weather and lack of heat spikes allowed for the development of small, concentrated berries. Aged for 11 months in neutral French oak, this wine is vibrant and expressive, with a perfect balance of fruit-forward character and structure. MacPhail’s precise and respectful winemaking style shines through in this elegant wine, which was awarded a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

Sangiacomo Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2021 – $52.99
Awarded 93 points by both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, this Chardonnay highlights the best of Sonoma’s cool-climate terroirs, including estate vineyards in Carneros and the Petaluma Gap. The 2021 growing season featured small berries that resulted in concentrated flavors. MacPhail hand-selects specific barrels from top sites like Roberts Road and El Novillero to craft a wine with complexity, structure, and vibrant acidity. The blend of clones, including Hyde and Old Wente, adds depth to this Chardonnay, which is both elegant and age-worthy.

Sangiacomo Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2022 – $67.99
The 2022 vintage saw favorable weather conditions that allowed the grapes to ripen fully while retaining their signature acidity. This Pinot Noir reflects the meticulous farming of Sangiacomo’s estate vineyards and showcases the cool-climate character of the Sonoma Coast. Hand-harvested early in the morning and fermented in a combination of stainless steel and French oak, this wine balances fruit intensity with subtle oak integration. With only 990 cases produced, it represents a true expression of Sonoma’s terroir.

The tasting is free, so stop in any time between 5:00 and 7:00. No reservations are needed.

Come for the tasting, stay for dinner!
