Brush up on your Italian Wine and wine trivia with Laurence Vuelta, a.k.a. DR. LUV. He will be back Saturday, July 13th from 2-4pm in the wine shop.
THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT ITALIAN WINE:
- Italy has over 2000 grape varieties!
- Italy has 330 DOC wines and 75 DOCG wines. Both signify the wines were made in a particular way from grapes grown from a particular place, following the rules of that specific DOC or DOCG.
- Italy produces more wine than any other country!
- Italy has two vineyard areas that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites! They are the hills of Prosecco of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the Veneto and the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato in Piedmont.
- The first Greek settlers that landed in Southern Italy around 800 BC, referred to the Italian peninsula as “THE LAND OF WINE”.
Laurence has over three decades of experience in the hospitality industry ranging from importer to distributor. He is currently the Director of Sales for Sunrise Wines, a small importer based here in NC. Laurence is unfailing charming and has a wealth of knowledge.
